Petronas adds agentic AI to myPROdata to speed upstream investment decisions

Petronas, through Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM), has signed an agreement with Iraya Energies to add agentic AI to its myPROdata platform, World Oil reported. The aim is to speed up how Malaysia's upstream opportunities are evaluated and investment decisions are made.

Key points

  • myPROdata gives access to subsurface and surface data on exploration blocks, discovered resources and producing fields across Malaysia.
  • Petronas said the system will support work from identifying prospective areas to assessing development opportunities and commercial viability.
  • Iraya Energies will act as consortium lead integrator, setting the technical, commercial and security framework.
  • MPM senior vice president Bacho Pilong said Petronas aims for about RM50 billion to RM60 billion in annual upstream investment, and to cut discovery to first hydrocarbons from 100 months to 50.

Why it matters for Malaysia

This puts AI to work on a concrete commercial bottleneck in a major Malaysian industry. Whether it shortens timelines will be the real measure, as the targets are the company's own.
